Just because you are traveling on a tight budget, doesn't mean you need to be far away from the action. The city center of Chicago has plenty of options for all wallet sizes. You may not get the attentive service that luxury hotels offer, but what you save on accommodations you can use to splurge shopping or dining out.
Simple and clean, the Chinatown Hotel is a bargain considering it is just south of the Loop, the downtown area of Chicago. Rooms, which are usually priced at less than $90 per night, are small and basic, but hotel staff is attentive and friendly. The hotel is less than a quarter mile from the Red Line that can take you to downtown Chicago and Wrigley Field. Other nearby attractions include Sears Tower, Chicago Museum Campus and Grant Park.
Just one block east of Michigan Avenue is the Red Roof Inn Chicago Downtown. Housed in a classic red-brick building, the hotel is in a prime location for an affordable price. The 195 guestrooms are decorated in contemporary furnishings and include T-Mobile high-speed Internet. Complimentary cappuccinos are served daily. Nearby places to see include Navy Pier, the John Hancock Center, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Another bargain within the Loop is the Travelodge Hotel Downtown. Guests can enjoy 24-hour room service, data ports and in-room coffeemakers. Transportation to and from both Midway and O'Hare is available for a nominal fee. Nearby Red and Blue Line stations make it easy to go around the city. Guests can walk or take a short cab ride to attractions like Grant Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, McCormick Place and Buckingham Fountain.
Just half a mile from Wrigley Field is the Old Chicago Inn. The turn-of-the-century greystone Bed & Breakfast has just eight rooms, all with their own unique charm. Some rooms shared bathrooms, while others have assigned or private ones. In addition to a complimentary continental breakfast, guests can enjoy a free lunch or dinner at Trader Todd's, a karaoke bar just two doors south of the inn. On Saturdays and Sundays, brunch is served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Guests are just minutes from Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan.
