Statue of fountain of time at Washington Park

This park is located in the neighborhood of Washington Park on the South Side of Chicago. Washington Park stretches east west from Cottage Grove Avenue to the Dan Ryan Expressway and north south from 63rd Street to 51st St.

This Chicago park was built in 1870 and is named after US President George Washington. It has since been a popular spot for social activity and has played host to eminent events and festivals.

Washington Park spans over an area of 380 acres. Perennial trees, reflective lakes and open green spaces create for a natural feel. You will find this a nice spot to idle afternoons away. Relax or exercise. Walk or jog around the park and see people fishing in the small lakes.

This park is home to DuSable Museum of African American History and its sculpture garden. The Lorado Taft sculpture Fountain of Time is a great piece of art and serves as quite a draw for tourists. Summers see a lot of festivals at this park including the Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic which is the largest African American parade in the country.

The most significant thing about Washington Park is that it is the proposed site of the Olympic Stadium for Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

When you get hungry, try eating at Sammy's Touch (773-288-2645). They have some very nice sandwiches, subs, Greek gyros and a yuppie following.
