A ball game at Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field is situated in the residential neighborhood of Lakeview. It is bordered by Clark, Addison, Waveland and Sheffield Avenues. Popular as the home ballpark of the Chicago Cubs, this stadium has also been home to Chicago Bears (1921-1970).

The field was named after the chewing gum tycoon William Wrigley, Jr. in 1926. Wrigley was part of a group of investors led by Charles Weeghman, who bought the Chicago Cubs in 1915. Wrigley gained full ownership in 1919, after Weeghman suffered financial losses.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 41,118 which was originally 14,000 when built.  Of all the ball parks, Wrigley Field is the second oldest major league ballpark.  In April and May the wind blows in from Lake Michigan and benefits the pitchers, while in summers, the wind pattern helps the batters make easy home runs. The field has a cozy, old world charm with ivy covered walls and manual scoreboards.

From here, you can take an easy walk to neighboring bars and restaurants which get really busy when the ball games are on.  Murphy's Bleachers at 3655 North Sheffield is a popular hang out that you may want to stop by. Famous neighbors to Wrigley Field include Lincoln Park and Lincoln Park Zoo. You can unwind in the tranquil green spaces or catch some fascination at the Zoo.

For dinner, enjoy some fresh fish at Matsuya (773-248-2677), located just a short walk away. You may have the popular sushi, and if you want even get it cooked. The facility is small and has a casual ambience. Or you may prefer to have an African experience at Ethiopian Village (773-929-8300), where the walls are red and food delicious. Go on weekends, so you can enjoy live African music with your meal.

Later, stop by at Cubby Bear Lounge- a sports bar that offers appetizers, pub grub, snacks and live music.  Johnny Cash, B. B. King, and Run DMC have all performed here.

If you are looking for lodging nearby, Old Chicago Inn is a 2 star hotel where you can have complimentary breakfast. This place is just a few steps away from public transport. Another nice choice would be City Suites Hotel- located near a lot of good action.
