Lotus Flowers at Chicago Botanic Garden

Chicago Botanic Garden is situated in Glencoe, a lovely suburb almost 25 miles away from the city. The 385 acres of the garden consists of 23 formal garden and 3 natural ones.

Chicago Botanic Garden is a nature lover's paradise. Stroll through garden beauty and take in refreshing sights of gorgeous displays of flowers.

Visit the main buildings; see various kinds of cactus at the indoor gardens.   These main buildings are also the site for major flower shows and exhibits. To rest your feet you can stop by at the in-house café.

At the ponds, you may get to see some rare visiting birds. Apart from ducks and Canadian Geese, you can also find Great Blue Heron at this spot. See the water lilies and lotuses at the showy Aquatic Garden.  Walk through hundreds of varieties of roses at the Rose Garden. Rouse your senses at the Sensory Garden or enjoy Japanese tea at the Malott Japanese Garden, designed like a 17th-century samurai's retreat.

After you are done at the Chicago Botanic Garden, you may want to go and see the nearby classic golf course at Skokie Country Club located on 500 Washington Ave.

For dinner, try O Neils (847-446-7100), where you can order drinks from the full bar and enjoy European cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Have some savory pasta or Atlantic salmon and for dessert, try their famous layered chocolate cake.

Tommy Nevins Pub is located nearly nine miles away but is open till late night. Enjoy pub grub, shoot pool and play video games in a frat house ambience.
