Probably the best interactive museum you will ever come across, this Chicago institution offers a unique and unforgettable experience and is known to be the first of its kind.
You will get to see Pioneer Zephyr - the sleek, speedy and most celebrated locomotive of the 1930s. At Body Slices, learn more about the complex structure of the human body from actual human meat slices. Let the Fairy Castle fascinate your kids. Wear a hard hat and go 600 feet underground at the Coal Mine. Step inside the U-505 submarine, the only German submarine in the United States. Hear whispers from the other end of the room, at the Whispering Gallery. At Omnimax Theater, watch shows that take you on a journey through outer space and under the sea.
If after all the fascination you still feel like visiting more of what Chicago has to offer, stop by the DuSable Museum of African American History, Smart Museum of Art, Robie House and Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, all of which are located nearby.
To recharge your battery, walk down to Edwardos Natural Pizza (773-241-7960). Enjoy calzones and stuffed pizzas at this traditional spot. For a more intimate experience try La Petite Folie (773-493-1394), a romantic bistro located just a mile away. There is also a gastro pub, Woodlawn Tap, nearby, where you will find a friendly crowd easy to blend into. If you are in a mood for live blues music, go to the touristy Checkerboard Lounge. If you like the neighborhood and wish to stay nearby, book yourself at Best Western Grant Park.
