Hemingway Museum

Located in Oak Park, 9 miles west of Chicago, the Hemingway Museum hopes to keep the memory of alive of the Nobel Prize winning author Ernest Hemingway. The museum, an archive of his first twenty years, focuses on the impact his life in Oak Park had on his writing later on in life. It also features many temporary as well as permanent exhibits on the author.

Only a few blocks away is the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Home. Built in 1890 for the author's maternal grandfather, this Victorian home was restored with authentic Turn-of-the-Century fixtures. Furniture and artifacts owned by the Hemingways are all display for visitors to see.

Also in nearby Oak Park, make sure stop by other sights such as the Unity Temple, the Robie House, the Oak Park Conservatory and Columbus Park.

Some restaurant options include, Pennys Noodle Shop (708-660-1300), which is packed most nights due to their popular Thai noodles. Mama Thai (708-386-0100) has charming interiors while focusing on Thai cuisine as well. The nearest bar, Empty Bottle, less than six miles away, is an intimate space that offers live music.
