Learn about Chicago - Chicago Hotels .com

Chicago is famous for its skyline, its hardworking people, blues and jazz, and the Chicago Cubs. The city is the transportation hub and as well as the financial, business, and cultural capital of the Midwest. The best time to visit Chicago is in June, September and October when it is mild and sunny.

Those fond of architecture will enjoy visiting the renowned buildings lining the banks of the Chicago River. A walk through downtown is a mini-tour through the history of the high-rise office skyscraper, from the 1890s Burnham Hotel Downtown Chicago to the mid-20th century modern style, typified by the Sears Tower and John Hancock Center. Around Christmas season, shoppers delight in a stroll down State Street to see costly and attractive displays at America's great department stores like Sears, Montgomery Ward, and old Marshall Field's.

To get away from the city hustle, head across Michigan Avenue to Grant Park, which offers an antidote to the artificiality of the city's concrete canyons. Here as a centerpiece, Buckingham Fountain shoots 150 feet of water in the air. The display is illuminated at night and can be seen in summer months. The fountain is double the size of its model the Bassin de Latone at Versailles.

At the southern end of the park, you will find the Chicago Museum Campus which consists of Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum where you can see Sue, the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever discovered. Sue enjoys the company of Egyptian mummies, a pair of gigantic elephants, Mayan artifacts, stuffed animals and meteorites.

From the Museum Campus if you go north on Lake Shore Drive, you will reached Navy Pier located in Streeterville. Chicago was a major naval port during the two World Wars, and many soldiers boarded troop ships from the half-mile long Navy Pier to cross the Atlantic. Today, this pier serves as a boarding spot for tours of the harbor. No trip to Chicago is complete without a trip to the Navy Pier. Enjoy the various attractions, watch IMAX cinema and ride the 140-foot Ferris wheel. Browse the quirky shops and dine at one of the many restaurants.

Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown - Lakefront is ideally placed between downtown and Lake Michigan and is a great spot for a business or leisure stay.
